What is fermented cacao? What does fermented cacao taste like?

We chose to use fermented cacao powder to bring forward a rich and complex chocolate flavor, while still benefiting from the nutritional profile that cacao can offer.

This natural process happens when cacao beans are left to ferment for 5-7 days before being processed. This fermentation allows compounds to develop that enhance the nutritional content and flavor of the cacao beans. Unfermented cacao, or “raw” cacao, does not go through this process, which creates a different taste and nutritional profile.

Fermented cacao powder is known for containing higher levels of antioxidants and minerals, and for having an enhanced flavor with less bitterness. The fermentation process creates a flavor that is naturally sweet and fruity, with nutty and earthy undertones. The bitterness and acidity found in raw cacao is greatly reduced, creating a more balanced and complex flavor profile.

Indulgence and Wellness in Every Sip

Our Chocolate Chai offers indulgence without the crash, bringing functional ingredients into your day with flavor you look forward to, so wellness doesn’t feel like another item on your to-do list. This gluten-free and vegan chai powder has no added sugars, preservatives, or artificial flavors; just tea and spices.

For a more mindful cup of chai, we’ve carefully selected ingredients best known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Cacao powder is best known for containing antioxidants, and chai spices are often attributed with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that support well-being.
